Welcome!
Membership is free!
Membership in the Meeting House is free and open to women (lesbian or straight), aged 17 and older, who reside somewhere on planet Earth! While this forum could eventually provide you the opportunity for a long-term relationship with another member, it isn't a dating/matchmaking service, per se. This is a place where friendships based on a common interest of history are forged and nurtured.
Benefits of membership

If you've ever joined one of those on-line dating lists, you know that often the only thing you may have in common with another person is the desire for a relationship--and there is a great deal of trying to impress or attract that other person enough that you go on that first date. I've gone on those first dates and often end up sitting there wondering why it was the dating service thought we'd be a good match in the first place. Herstory Meeting House starts with the friendship and worries about the romance later--or no romance, if the case may be.
For the time being, I'll be able to handle the operating costs. If the group becomes really large enough that the House has to expand into a paid service, then I'll ask new, incoming members for donations toward the advertising costs. Previously enrolled members who have found their membership in the House beneficial in any way will have the opportunity to donate at that time also.

To join, you must fill out this form!
None of this information will be made available to any other organisation. (Ever!)
The confidential questions are in the beginning and are needed for categorisation purposes and seen only by me. Please read Bear Charmer's Privacy Policy   for full disclosure on this matter. There are questions where you'll need to decide if you want the information you provide to be shown in your profile listing that other members will see. If I mistakenly display something you really did not want to have displayed, make sure you contact me immediately at herstorymeet@verizon.net.
Your membership application will be reviewed by a live human being (me!) and you will be notified your acceptance by e-mail, usually by the next weekday (sometimes within minutes). At that point you can return to the Meeting House website (using your password and assigned member number) and peruse member profiles. If you wish to contact anyone, you can e-mail them indirectly from the House website. I'll forward your message (without showing your e-mail address) to the other member, who can reply in the same way. You may continue to communicate 'anonymously' through the House, until you decide you would prefer direct contact.
One of the things at this site I'm excited about is having a chat room in addition to the email system. Once you are installed as a member, you'll have access to the room whenever you like. I'd also like to have scheduled monthly on-line meetings where the discussion will center around a particular topic or question. There's a message board (on the member's page) where you can log in a suggestion for the topic to be discussed.

Things to remember as you fill out the application
- See my profile entry for an example of how your information will be displayed.
- If you go here you can get a printable list of the questions that you can take and answer while off-line in your favorite word processing program. When ready to submit your application, go back on-line and do the "cut & paste" thing to fill in the boxes.
- 1 (one) photo (B&W or color and can be a composite photo) is optional and will appear with your profile on the website. Make sure your photo is at least 150x150 pixels and no larger than 300x300 pixels; saved in either JPEG (JPG) or GIF format; and labeled with your member number or last name in the filename (e.g. 745.jpg or bellanj.jpg). Send this digital photo to herstorymeet@verizon.net. You can arrange to send me a photo through regular mail: Herstory Meeting House, PO Box 3, Ashuelot, NH 03441, USA, but please contact me prior to this so we can work out the details.
- Please attend to your punctuation: lines will be reformatted (except for "Capsule Comments", which will retain hard returns/line feeds).
- The only language used on this site is English ... and only because it's the only language I know, having failed at my attempts to learn French, Italian, German. Choose either the British or American way of spelling and use the one form consistently--please don't switch back and forth.
- Please keep your profile responses to not much more than the space given for the boxes. Once I get your profile up in the display, you can contact me with items you'd like to "tweak."
- Asterisks (*) indicate required fields.
- Make sure you indicate your "Show"/"No Show" preferences when asked.
- As the administrator of the House, I must know your true identity. Name, phone number, and e-mail address are essential. Your postal address is optional and would be used to notify you of problems with your e-mail address or to return a photo.
- If you include links in your profile, please know that I (and other members) will actually visit those sites, so make sure the content is relevant. Also, there's the possibility that if someone clicks on one of your links, they may not be able to get back to the profiles without going through the log-in procedure again. I've had many on-line conversations that stop in mid sentence when the person I'm chatting with (or on my part) head off on a tangent click.

By submitting your application...
-
By submitting your completed form, you are agreeing to these basic policies relating to membership:
- The House reserves the right to limit membership to those the House considers compatible with other members (once there are enough members, I'll ask for volunteers to help decide questionable applications).
- The House reviews, but generally does not attempt to verify, information provided by members.
- The House expects members to behave civilly and to respect the privacy and wishes of other members, and the House reserves the right to terminate membership at it's sole discretion (again, that decision will not be unilateral).
- The House is to be used for social purposes only and not for professional or business purposes.
- Membership data (indicated as "Show") is shared only among members, and will not be made available to any other organisation, company, or individuals.
